Esma is a female given name of Arabic origin. It occurs particularly in Turkey and the Balkans . Translated into different languages, it has different meanings. While it is more related to understanding and hearing in Bosnian and Arabic, in Slavonic usage it can stand for both “name” and “the most beautiful in the world”. Esma is also a short form of the name Esmeralda.
