The Flugbärblinge ( Esomus ), also air barbs called, are a genus of danios (Danionidae). The freshwater fish are found on the Indian subcontinent , Sri Lanka , the Nicobar Islands and in mainland Southeast Asia to the Malay Peninsula .
features
Flying danishes have an elongated, laterally strongly flattened body and reach a length of 6 cm to 13 cm. Your stomach line is usually more bulged than the back line. The mouth is above and is flanked by two pairs of barbels , a pair of small upper jaw barbels and two long barbels on the lower jaw that reach far back. The dorsal fin has 6 to 8 split rays , the short anal fin 5 to 6. The pectoral fins are elongated. A symphysis button, the upward bulge on the symphysis of the lower jaw, which is typical for many other species of bear, is missing.
Way of life
Flying danishes are swarming schooling fish that mainly occur in stagnant and slow-flowing waters with heavy vegetation, also on flooded rice fields. They usually stay just below the surface of the water, like to jump well and, among other things, feed on insects that have fallen into the water.
