Symphysis

Under a symphysis pubis ( pubic symphysis ; not to be confused with the epiphysis ) refers to a compound of two bone by fibrocartilage . It belongs to the false joints ( synarthroses ) and within this group to the synchondroses , the cartilaginous bone connections ( articulationes cartilagineae ).

Symphyses occur in humans and other mammals as

• Pubic symphysis
• Band washers
• Symphysis manubriosternalis

In most other vertebrates , the front end of the lower jaw, where the front ends of the two tooth-bearing bones (dentalia) are in contact, is designed as a symphysis. In mammals this is ossified.
