Espadeiro

Espadeiro is a red variety , both in the Spanish area Rias Baixas in Galicia and in Portugal is grown. In Portugal it is approved for the Douro, Minho and Beira Litoral regions, where it covers an area of ​​2,387 hectares . Espadeiro is less of a defined grape variety than of a family:

  • The varieties tintas, vinhoes and souzoes, all of which result in a deep red wine .
  • The varieties Espadeira Mole and Espadeira da terra, which result in a light red wine.
  • There is also a variant in rosé.

The late-ripening variety produces red wines with an idiosyncratic character.
