Espen Dekko (* 1968 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian puppeteer , theater director and children's book author .
life and work
Espen Dekko studied at the Puppetry School of the Norwegian State Theater (Riksteatrets Dukkespillerskole) . Since 1990 he has directed for the puppet theater and appears as a puppeteer himself. He also studied at the Norwegian Institute for Children's Books (Norsk Barnebokinstitutt) .
Espen Dekko has written two children's books so far. The children's book Poff und Elmar , illustrated by Mari Kanstad Johnsen (* 1981), was included in the prestigious shortlist The White Ravens of the International Youth Library in Munich in 2018 . It was translated into German in 2019. In 2018 his children's novel Tårer forandrer ingenting ('Tears do not change anything') was published. In both books Dekko deals with the topic of what the death of a loved one or animal means for children.
Espen Dekko organizes numerous workshops and has been a director of the Cirka Teater in Trondheim for many years . Today he lives not far from the Norwegian capital Oslo.
