Mari Kanstad Johnsen

Mari Kanstad Johnsen (born August 7, 1981 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian illustrator and children's book author .

life and work

Mari Kanstad Johnsen was born as the daughter of the designer and graphic artist Augon Johnsen (* 1953). Her older sister is the illustrator and children's book author Åshild Kanstad Johnsen (* 1978).

Mari Kanstad Johnsen studied at the Oslo School of Art and the Konstfack School of Art in Stockholm . Since 2011 she has illustrated numerous Norwegian children's books. She has also written and illustrated children's books herself.

In 2016, Mari Kanstad Johnsen received an honorable mention for Jeg rømmer at the Italian children's book prize Bologna Ragazzi Award . The children's book Poff und Elmar, illustrated by her, with a text by the author Espen Dekko (* 1968) was included in the prestigious selection list The White Ravens of the International Youth Library in Munich in 2018 . It was translated into German in 2019. ABC received the gold medal for "Most Beautiful Book of the Year" in Norway in 2018.

Mari Kanstad Johnsen now lives and works in Oslo .
