The Essex Point is a headland in the northeast of Byers Peninsula on the west end of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 1.5 km northeast of the Start Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the US sealer Essex under Captain Chester, who operated in the waters of the South Shetland Islands in the campaigns from 1820 to 1821 and 1821 to 1822.
