Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Estação Primeira de Mangueira (German for example: "Freizeitgremium Samba School First Station Mangueira", Mangueira is the Portuguese name of the mango tree ) is one of the most traditional samba schools in Rio de Janeiro with the Portela . At the Carnival in Rio , several hundred musicians play samba enredo , to which an equally large group dances.

The samba school was founded on April 28, 1928 as the third of its kind by the musician Agenor de Oliveira and took part in the carnival for the first time in 1929. The professionally run association also performs social tasks in the favelas , from which the majority of the over a thousand members come.
