The Estació Intermodal de Palma (also Estació Intermodal - Plaça de Espanya ) is an underground terminus in Palma . The station is the end of the Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca and the Metro de Palma .
history
The station was opened on March 1, 2007 and replaced the old SFM terminus in Palma, which was decoupled from the rail network on August 16, 2005 and in the place of which the station was built. The construction costs were estimated at 90 million euros. On March 25, 2007, the Metro de Palma from Plaça de Espanya to the university campus was also put into operation. The Parc de les Estacions was built above the station . Access is via this and the Plaça de Espanya. A continuation of the railway line beyond Manacor to Artà is under construction, but the completion is in the stars for financial reasons, as the Balearic Islands no longer receive any money from the Spanish government in Madrid for such infrastructure projects.
investment
The station has three basement floors. The first basement floor serves as a distribution floor and has various facilities, such as a cafeteria, but also the security barriers. The second basement consists of two parts: In level 2A , the SFM and Metro trains run on ten platform tracks on five central platforms. Six tracks are used by the railway, four for the subway. The traffic control is also located there. The Nivel 2B forms the bus station with thirty parking spaces. In the third basement there is a parking garage with 844 parking spaces.
traffic
railroad
The SFM railway lines to Sa Pobla and Manacor start at the Estació Intermodal . The lines are electrified up to the Enllaç junction, so there are currently no direct trains to Sa Pobla or Manacor. The Ferrocarril de Sóller terminus is on the other side of the street .
Subway
This is also where the Metro de Palma to the university campus begins; it shares the tunnel route with the SFM to Son Costa / Son Fortesa. Although the metro is entitled to four tracks in the station, only one is generally used in operations. The trains run every quarter of an hour during the day, in the evenings and on weekends the traffic is thinned out to half an hour or hourly.
Local traffic
At Plaça de Espanya you can change to 21 lines of the local bus company Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Palma de Mallorca (EMT).
