The Estadio Germán Becker ( German : Germán-Becker Stadium ) is a stadium in the Chilean city of Temuco . It was opened in 1965 and had space for 20,930 spectators. Due to its location in close proximity to a large city park, the stadium is considered one of the most beautiful in Chile. It bears the name of a former mayor of the city, Germán Becker Baechler , on whose initiative the old stadium was built.
In 2007, the stadium was selected to host the 2008 U-20 Women's World Cup . To this end, extensive renovation work was carried out by the end of September 2008. By installing seat shells, the capacity was reduced to 18,125 seats, all grandstands were covered and the running track was removed. The reopening took place on November 5, 2008.
Currently, the stadium is mainly used as a football stadium. The football club Deportes Temuco plays its home games here.
