The Estadio Municipal Álvarez Claro is a stadium in the Spanish autonomous city of Melilla , on the North African coast. The stadium was inaugurated on September 29, 1945 with a game between UD Melilla and the Spanish top club Atlético Madrid and serves as the home of the football club UD Melilla . The venue, which can accommodate around 10,000 spectators, has a covered main grandstand on the south side and a running track for athletics competitions .

The stadium is located in a sports complex on the Explanada de Álvarez Claro , northeast of the nearby airport .
