After the Sandinista revolution of 1979, the name was given to Rigoberto López Pérez , who had carried out an assassination attempt on Anastasio Somoza García in 1956. Since November 20, 1998, the 50th anniversary of the stadium opening, it has been called “Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez”. Dennis Martinez was the first Nicaraguan to play Major League Baseball .
