Estrade (French for podium, tribune)

  • in architecture the part of the floor raised by one or more steps, see platform ,
  • in a lock the elevated part of the lock chamber or the space between the two lock gates.
  • Derived from the meaning of “podium, stage”, Estrade describes a festival-like mixed artistic and musical stage program , especially in the former Eastern Bloc . In Russian today, singers in particular are referred to as "Stars of the Estrade" ( Russian Звёзды эстрады / Swjosdy estrady). The musical genre roughly corresponds to that of the German hit . The Soviet-Russian singer Alla Pugatschowa is often cited as a classic and best-known example of a "star star" .
