The Estraden is a Finnish RoPax ship .

history

The ship was built in 1999 at Aker Finnyards in Rauma for the Bore shipping company. The keel was laid on April 9, the launch on October 16, 1998. The ship was completed on February 5, 1999.

In 2014 and 2015, the ship received two 18 m high Flettner rotors from the Finnish company Norsepower to save fuel, making it one of the rare hybrid ships that have an additional wind drive. The first installation took place in Turku and took around seven hours, as the foundation had already been installed during the last visit to the shipyard . A rotor was previously examined on a test facility in Naantali under the name “Rotor Sail Solution” . Depending on the wind conditions, fuel savings are between 5 and 10%.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the vessel by two Wärtsilä - Diesel engines of the type 8L46A each with 7,240  kW power . For power generation are two Caterpillar - Diesel generators of the type 3508B, each with 856 kW power and a wave generator with 1,200 kW power. The ship is equipped with a bow thruster with an output of 1,100 kW.

The ship is loaded and unloaded via a 14.5 m long and 20 m wide stern ramp , which can be loaded with a maximum of 120 t. The main deck is reached via the stern ramp. A ro-ro deck on the tank ceiling and a ro-ro deck on the weather deck can be reached from the main deck. There is a fixed ramp between the main deck and the tank ceiling, the weather deck can be reached via a height-adjustable ramp. The height of the RoRo decks is 4.70 m on the tank top and 7.20 m on the main deck.

The ship has 2,270  gauge meters , of which 360 m on the tank ceiling, 950 m on the main deck and 960 m on the open weather deck. In addition, the ship is equipped with two height-adjustable car decks, which have 530 and 240 gauge meters respectively, so that the RoRo capacity can be increased to 3040 gauge meters. There is 1,050 m² available on the tank ceiling, 2,900 m² on the main deck and 2,650 m² on the weather deck. The height-adjustable car decks can provide a further 490 m². The tank top and main deck can be loaded with 5 t / m², the weather deck with 2 t / m². 363 20-foot containers can also be loaded on the weather deck .

The deck superstructures are located in the front area of the ship. Below the superstructure, the height on the weather deck is limited to 4.60 m. There is space on board for twelve passengers who can be accommodated in six cabins. The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).
