Heinz Peter Kämmerer

Heinz Peter Kämmerer (born August 1, 1927 in Weimar ; † June 3, 2017 in Tecklenburg ) was a German surgeon .

Life

Heinz Kämmerer was born in Weimar as the son of Alfred Richard Kämmerer (born von Saalfeld, chief engineer at Mix & Genest ) and Ella Rosa Meier. He spent his youth in Dresden, where he attended the Dreikönigsschule secondary school, which was destroyed in 1945. In the spring of 1945 he was drafted into the Navy and was eventually taken prisoner by the English. After his release in 1947, he moved to Göttingen to study, where he lived with his family until 1974. He finally found his new home in Tecklenburg.

Career

Heinz Kämmerer studied medicine at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen from 1947 to 1952 . After an initial activity (1953) as an assistant doctor, he took over the position of senior physician at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and was finally appointed as an associate professor at this university.

His scientific focus was on the research and medical application of tetracycline , which was placed in bait as a vaccine against rabies in foxes.

In 1974 he took up the position of chief physician at the Protestant hospital in Lengerich (Westphalia) . He worked alternately with Otto Lange (chief physician of internal medicine) as the medical director of this hospital.

He played a key role in the design of the new Protestant hospital in Lengerich. Until his retirement in 1992, he was chief physician in the surgical department of the hospital, now the Helios Clinic .
