Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation
Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), formerly Ethiopian Television (ETV; Amharic የኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን - ኢቴቪ ) is an Ethiopian television broadcaster operated by the Ethiopian government. Together with Radio Ethiopia , ETV forms the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERTA; Amharic የኢትዮጵያ ሬድዮና ቴሌቪዥን ድርጅት - ኢሬቴድ ). It is the only nationwide television station due to the legal ban on private media. It is broadcast in the Ethiopian languages Amharic , Oromo and Tigrinya , Somali and Afar as well as in English and Arabic.
history
Ethiopian television was introduced in 1964 with the support of the (then) British company Thomson . The reason for this was a congress of the Organization for African Unity (OAU), which took place in Addis Ababa that same year . Broadcast in color there since 1982nd
program
The program includes news , sports, music and various entertainment programs such as Ethiopian Idol , the Ethiopian counterpart to American Idol ( DSDS in Germany). In recent years ETV has also increasingly broadcast football matches from various European leagues (the Primera División in 2007 , the English Premier League in 2008 ), as well as some international matches.
