Limonium virgatum is a perennial rosette hemikryptophyte or subshrub that reaches stature heights of (10) 20 to 45 (90) centimeters. The leaves are narrowly spatulate to wedge-shaped, rounded to blunt and measure 30 to 80 × 4 to 10 millimeters. As a rule, at least the larger leaves are three-veined.

The panicle branches of the first order have side branches. The ears usually consist of 4 to 5, rarely 2 to 6 spikelets, which protrude at an angle of 30 to 40 ° and have 2 to 4 flowers per centimeter . The inner support sheet measures 5.4 to 6.6 millimeters. The cup is 6.2 to 6.5 millimeters in size.

The flowering period extends from June to October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 27.

Occurrence

Limonium virgatum occurs in the Mediterranean area. The species grows in dune valleys, on sandy and rocky coasts and on steppe lawns at altitudes of 0 to 200 meters.
