Eucherius of Orléans (* around 694 in Orléans , France , † February 20, 738 in Sint-Truiden ) was Bishop of Orléans.

Life

Eucherius came from an influential family and entered the Benedictine order as a young man . He studied theology and was ordained a priest . He made the decision to dedicate himself to prayer and work in seclusion, but the reputation of the high education and human maturity of Eucherius spread outside the monastery walls. The result was that he was offered the office of Bishop of Orléans. 719 he took over the leadership of the diocese of Orléans at the age of twenty-five. His piety aroused numerous envious people who slandered him at Karl Martell . This informed Eucherius that he would transfer the church property into the possession of the state. The bishop resisted and was banished first to Cologne and later to Sint-Truiden, where he died on February 20, 738 in the name of holiness. Numerous miracles were attributed to Eucherius during his lifetime . His feast day is still celebrated in the diocese of Orléans today.
