Franz Regis Clet
Franz Regis Clet (born August 19, 1748 in Grenoble , † February 17, 1820 in China ) is a martyr and saint of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Franz Regis Clet entered the Congregation of Lazarists in 1768 and studied Catholic theology . After his ordination he worked for fifteen years as a lecturer in the seminary of Annecy before he became the seminary director in Paris in 1787 . After the French Revolution he could no longer exercise his priesthood in France and was sent to China as a missionary at his own request . In June 1819 he was captured during a persecution of Christians. On February 17, 1820, he was strangled on the cross. Franz Regis Clet was born on May 27, 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. Beatified and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000 .
