The Salatsamenwickler ( Eucosma conterminana ) is a butterfly from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).
features
The butterflies have a wingspan of 15–19 mm. The pale sand-colored forewings have a characteristic spot pattern. At rest you can see a large cream-colored spot halfway along the top of the butterfly and a light spot on the side of the wing tips. The hind wings are colored beige without any particular pattern. The yellow-brown colored caterpillars have a brown head and a dark brown neck shield.

Eucosma conterminana is native to the Palearctic . The species is widespread in Europe.
Way of life
The host plants of the species include the lettuce ( Lactuca serriola ), the venomous lettuce ( Lactuca virosa ), the garden lettuce ( Lactuca sativa ) and the beach aster ( Tripolium pannonicum ). The caterpillars bore into the flower heads of their host plants. The adult caterpillars overwinter in a web in the ground and pupate in spring. Eucosma conterminana forms one generation a year. The moths fly from June to August.
