Jean Louis Marie Eugène Durieu (* 1800 in Nîmes , † 1874 in Paris ) was a French photographer. Durieu was best known for his early nude photographs of men and women. A number of his female models were also painted by Eugène Delacroix , with whom he was friends.

Life

Eugène Durieu was an administrative lawyer during his professional life. His last job was as Inspector General for Education and Culture with the government of France. In 1849 he retired early and devoted himself to photography. In 1854 he was a founding member of the world's first photographic society, the Société française de photographie .

Around 1853 he worked with Eugène Delacroix on a photo series with various male and female nude models. Delacroix took over the organization and direction, Durieu the technical execution.
