The valet Eugen Ketterl ( Theodor Zasche )

Eugen Ketterl (born October 7, 1859 in Vienna ; † October 11, 1928 there ) was the last valet of Emperor Franz Joseph I. He held this position for 22 years, until the monarch's death on November 21, 1916.

activity

Ketterl began working at the Viennese court as a waitress at the court table. In 1894 he was appointed to the imperial chamber and offered the office of the emperor's personal chamberlain, which he immediately accepted. In the following years Ketterl became an indispensable employee of Franz Joseph. He not only took care of the emperor's personal hygiene and cloakroom, but also sent him newspaper articles that were otherwise kept away from the monarch. After the death of his master and the collapse of the monarchy, Ketterl wrote a book about his work in the service of the monarch, which was published in 1929. Eugen Ketterl was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery.

In the film 1914, the last days before the world fire in 1931, Ketterl was played by Karl Gerhardt .
