Eugene Robert

Eugen Robert Weiss (* 1877 in Budapest , † 1944 in London ) was a Hungarian lawyer, journalist and theater entrepreneur.

Life

He became known through the opening of the Hebbel Theater in Berlin on January 29, 1908, of which he was the founder and first director. Although he had managed to raise the necessary financial means for the construction of the theater and in Oskar Kaufmann to win an architect, he was only able to hold the theater for a short time and had to give it up as early as 1911. After that he was director of the Munich Kammerspiele until 1913 . In 1916 he was acting director at the Residenz Theater Berlin, and in 1920 he took over the management of the grandstand from Franz Wenzler .

As a Jew, Robert had to emigrate to England in 1933.
