Eugenius Nulty

Eugenius Nulty (* 1789 in the Kingdom of Ireland , † July 3, 1871 in Philadelphia ) was a mathematician and self-taught .

From 1814 to 1816 he was a mathematics tutor at Dickinson College before moving to a life insurance company in Philadelphia as an actuary . He was also a tutor at the University of Pennsylvania , which awarded him an honorary Master of Arts in 1823 . He also worked as a tutor (for example for Matthew Carey Lea and his brother Henry Charles Lea ) and as a mathematician for the US Survey .

In 1817 he was elected to the American Philosophical Society , in 1832 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1835 he was councilor of the American Philosophical Society . Nulty was an honorary member of the Philomathean Society , a literary society at the University of Pennsylvania .

Nulty was married. He is buried in Woodlands Cemetery in Philadelphia.
