Eugenio Retes

Eugenio Retes Bisetti (born September 6, 1895 in Lima , † 1985 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean actor and author of Peruvian origin.

Retes came to Chile with his family in 1909. He worked as an accountant in Argentina from 1920 to 1925 before turning to a career in theater on his return to Chile. He was a member and leader of various theater groups and had his first success in 1930 with a production by Daniel de la Vegas Fanfarria . In the 1930s he was a member of the Gran Compañía de Comedias Cómicas de Olvido Leguía y Lucho Córdoba at the Teatro Imperio and from 1934 also headed the Inés Berutti group at the Teatro Coliseo .

He later founded the Compañía de Revistas Eugenio Reves at the Teatro Balmaceda , with which he performed his satirical revue Si las estatuas hablaran , which he wrote together with Carlos Cariola in 1938 . He then performed with this group at the Teatro Bim Bam Bum for another thirty years . In addition to pieces for his group, Retes also wrote poems, some of which were set to music by Federico Cotó .

Retes began his career as a film actor in 1941 as Juan Verdejo in Eugenio de Liguoro's films Verdejo gasta un millón and Verdejo gobierna en Villaflor (1942). El Gran Circo Chamorro (1955) by José Bohr and Cabo de Hornos (1956) and El Burócrata González (1964) by Tito Davison were also great successes . Retes was a member of the Sindicato de Actores Profesionales de Chile , a member and later Vice-President of the Sociedad de Autores Teatrales de Chile and, from 1946, Vice-President of the Frente de Unidad Artístico Gremial . His brother Rogel Retes was also known as an actor, his brother Santiago Retes as a pianist and his son Esteban Retes ( Ronco Retes ) as a comedian.
