The Eupen AG Brewery was a brewery in the Belgian Eupen .
history
The origins of the company can be found in the Delhougne brewery founded by Johann Bartholomäus Delhougne in 1834 , which had its headquarters at Paveestrasse 12. This merged in 1897 with the Körfer'schen Brewery formerly Warlimont in Borngasse to form the Eupener Bierbrauerei and brewing operations in Borngasse were discontinued. In 1908 new fermentation and storage tanks were purchased and the brewery was able to record a significant increase in sales up to the beginning of the First World War . That changed initially when Eupen became Belgian after the war ( Treaty of Versailles ). As a result, the region around Aachen no longer counted as a sales area and new markets in Belgium had to be opened up. From 1923 the company was registered as a public limited company under Belgian law . During the 1930s, the technology was further modernized and the production facility enlarged. Immediately after the Second World War , around 10,000 hl were emitted annually, but the brand became increasingly popular.
Because sales stagnated and declined again in the 1990s and the quality could not be maintained, the brewery was sold to Haacht in 1998 . This closed the last German-speaking brewery in Belgium and production was relocated to Boortmeerbeek . The Haacht brewery continues to brew Eupener beer according to an old recipe; It is a light pilsner with 5.1 % alcohol by volume, which is only sold in barrels in and around Eupen.
The front building of the former brewery in Eupen, Paveestraße 12, is now a listed building .
