Euphorbia arceuthobioides is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia arceuthobioides grows as a very densely branched, dioecious shrub and is up to 30 centimeters high. Shoots emerge from a thick and somewhat fleshy root that branch in opposite directions and become 2 to 4 millimeters thick. The shoots above are forked and not very roughened. The egg-shaped leaves are up to 2 millimeters in size and are long-lived.

Two to three-bifurcated cymes are formed, which stand on an inflorescence stalk up to 18 millimeters long. The bracts are similar to the leaves. The cyathia reach 3.5 millimeters in diameter and the nectar glands are elongated. The bluntly lobed fruits are 4 millimeters in size and have a stalk that protrudes only a little. The egg-shaped seed is wrinkled and 2 millimeters in size.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia arceuthobioides is distributed in South Africa in the Western Cape Province .

The species was first described in 1860 by Pierre Edmond Boissier . Synonyms for Euphorbia arceuthobioides are Tirucallia arceuthobioides (Boiss.) PVHeath (1996), Arthrothamnus scopiformis Klotzsch (1860) and Euphorbia scopiformis (Klotzsch) Boiss. .
