Euphorbia aspericaulis is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia aspericaulis forms dioecious shrubs up to 45 centimeters in height. From a somewhat tuberous root, opposite or forked branches and almost upright shoots are formed. They are 3 millimeters thick, hexagonal and have a rough surface. The egg-shaped leaves reach a size of 2 millimeters and are more or less long-lived.
Terminal or axillary cymes are formed, which are bifurcated once or twice and are almost seated. On the inflorescences there are about 1.3 millimeters large rounded bracts . The cyathia reach 3 millimeters in diameter and the four to five nectar glands are elliptical in shape. The spherical fruit is 4 millimeters in size. Nothing is known about the seed.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia aspericaulis is widespread in South Africa in the Northern Cape Province near Calvinia .
The species was first described in 1899 by Ferdinand Albin Pax . A synonym is Tirucallia aspericaulis (NEBr.) PVHeath (1996).
