Euphorbia baradii is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae). The species was named after the doctor Gerald Samuel Barad (1923-2016).
description
The succulent Euphorbia baradii arises from a fibrous root, remains very small, grows like a pillow and is up to 8 centimeters high. The many shoots are round, are 2 to 4 centimeters long and 13 millimeters thick. In 7 to 8 spiral rows distributed over the shoots there are clear warts with a distance of up to 3 millimeters from one another. These rows are separated from each other by deep furrows. The approximately circular thorn shields reach 1.5 millimeters in diameter. There are thorns up to 4 millimeters in length and secondary leaf thorns 0.5 to 2 millimeters in length.
The inflorescence is formed from single, simple and almost sedentary cymen . The cyathia are 2.3 millimeters in size and the elliptical and solitary nectar glands are colored orange-red. The ovary stands on a stalk. Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia baradii is widespread in the north of Central Somalia in the vicinity of Eyl on rocky limestone plateaus with gaps between trees at altitudes of 210 to 550 meters.
The species was first described in 1992 by Susan Carter Holmes .
