Euphorbia brachyphylla is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia brachyphylla forms shrubs up to 1.2 meters high. The linear and almost sedentary leaves are up to 80 millimeters long and 5 millimeters wide. The stipule spines, which run in about three spiral rows around the shoot, have a thickened base and adjacent bristles.

The inflorescence is formed by doubly forked cymen . The only slightly hairy cyathophylls are usually red in color on the underside. Elliptical nectar glands that are greenish in color are formed on the cyathia . The ovary is hairless. Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia brachyphylla is endemic to the south of Madagascar in the Mangoky Valley . The species is on the IUCN Red List and is endangered.

The species was first described in 1921 by Marcel Denis .
