Euphorbia brassii is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia brassii forms trees up to 10 meters high and richly branched, which are apparently dioecious . Protruding leaf scars are formed on the somewhat thick branches, up to 1 centimeter in diameter. The long-lived and lanceolate leaves are up to 17 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide. They are glossy green in color and the midrib is clearly visible on the underside. The petiole can be up to 2 inches long.

The terminal inflorescence is branched several times and is up to 8 centimeters long. The short-lived bracts are 2.5 millimeters long and 1.5 millimeters wide. The cyathia are on 3 millimeter long stems and become 2 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. The elliptical nectar glands are up to 2.5 millimeters wide and do not meet. The spherical fruit is almost sessile and grows to about 2 centimeters. The light brown seed is elongated and becomes 9 millimeters long and 6 millimeters wide.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia brassii is widespread in eastern Papua New Guinea .

The species was first described in 1994 by Paul Irwin Forster . A synonym for this species is Euphorbia plumerioides var. Macrocarpa Radcl.-Sm. (1980).
