Euphorbia bubalina is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia bubalina forms shrubs up to 1.30 meters high and has a strong, sometimes branched trunk. The twigs are patterned with indistinct warts 15 millimeters long and 9 millimeters wide, which are arranged in a spiral. The lanceolate and sessile leaves are up to 10 centimeters long and 2.5 centimeters wide.
The inflorescence consists of one to two-fold bifurcated cymen , which stand in two to three-rayed umbels. The long-lived inflorescence stalks are up to 12 centimeters long and are covered with one or two sterile bracts . The rays are up to 3.5 centimeters long. The bracts of the inflorescence are triangular and up to 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. The cyathia are up to 5 millimeters in size and the elongated nectar glands meet. The spherical fruit is sitting and is about 8 millimeters tall. It contains egg-shaped seeds with an almost smooth surface.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia bubalina is widespread in the South African province of Eastern Cape .
The species was first described in 1860 by Pierre Edmond Boissier . A synonym is Euphorbia laxiflora Kuntze (1891).
