Euphorbia buruana is a species in the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae). The distribution area includes Tanzania , Kenya and Uganda .

description

The succulent Euphorbia buruana is a richly branched dwarf shrub with a greatly reduced subterranean main stem axis and reaches heights of 60 cm. Their large beet-shaped roots are around 10 cm in diameter. The branches have a diameter of 25 to 35 mm and are gray-green in color with conspicuous pale yellow-green markings from 1 to 2 mm wide with two to three constrictions between the thorn shields elongated and sometimes merging. The two pairs of thorns have lengths between 1 and 20 mm and are always unequal in length. The leaves are rudimentary and short-lived.

The inflorescences standing individually on 3 to 4 mm long stems consist of three yellow cyathia arranged vertically .

Similar Art

Euphorbia leontopoda S.Carter issimilar to Euphorbia buruana . However, this has 10 to 35 mm long thorns and always fusing thorn shields.

Occurrence

Euphorbia buruana is widespread in Tanzania , Kenya and Uganda and grows there between grass in open bushland, on sandy soils , at altitudes between about 600 and 1100 meters.

Initial description

The first description of Euphorbia buruana took place in 1904 in Botanical yearbooks for systematics, plant history and geography of plants 34, p 85 by Ferdinand Albin Pax .
