Euphorbia cereiformis is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia cereiformis forms shrubs up to 1 meter high that are dioecious . They branch out from the base and also above it. The upright shoots become 2.5 to 5 centimeters thick and are thinner at the base. They form nine to fifteen dark green ribs, with deep furrows in between. On the ribs there are round warts at a distance of up to 4 millimeters from each other.
Individual, sterile inflorescence stalks are formed that are 5 to 10 millimeters long. They are thorny, needle-shaped, reddish in color and covered with a few, very small bracts. Nothing is known about the actual inflorescences.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia cereiformis is only known from culture. The species is suspected to be a hybrid whose parents are unknown, but Euphorbia heptagona could be involved.
The first description of the species was in 1753 by Carl von Linné . Synonyms for this species are Euphorbia erosa Willd. (1813), Treisia erosa (Willd.) Haw. (1819), Euphorbia odontophylla Willd. (1813), Euphorbia polygonata G.Lodd. (1828) and Euphorbia cereiformis var. Echinata Salm-Dyck ex Boiss. (1862).
