Wilhelm Saake

Wilhelm Saake SVD (born November 13, 1910 in Ahden ; † March 17, 1983 ) was a Roman Catholic priest and ethnologist .

Life

The son of Josef Saake and Theresia geb. Schmidt attended the St. Xaver high school . After graduating from high school at the St. Michael Mission House , he completed the novitiate in the Steyler Missionary Order. After studying philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological College in Sankt Augustin and studying theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University , he was ordained priest in Rome on October 31, 1937 . For the collaboration in the linguistic-ethnological Anthropos-Institut he studies ethnology in Vienna and in Freiburg im Üechtland . After receiving his doctorate in 1949 with Wilhelm Schmidt , he went to Brazil for ten years in 1950 , where he was a professor and field researcher with the Bororo , Bakairi , Kalapalo , Baniwa , Kaingang von Nonoai , Mbüa- Guarani and Canoeiro during the semester break . 1960 was appointed director of the Anthropos Institute. He founded the book series Collectanea Instituti Anthropos . He was a member of the Société des Américanistes .
