The Bakairi (further names: Bakaïri or Bacairis ) are an indigenous South American people in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso .

The name is Kurâ , the name Bakairi has been documented since the 18th century. In 1965, 261 tribal members were registered, 414 in 1980, 950 in 1999, around 930 in 2012 and 982 in 2014. They live in the Terra Indígena Bakairi reserves near the town of Paranatinga and Terra Indígena Santana near the town of Nobres . The habitat are the cerrados , a savannah area .

His language belongs to the Caribbean language family with elements of the Arára, Txikão and others such as the Nahukwá and Kuikúru. The ethnologist Karl von den Steinen dedicated a large part of his work Among the indigenous peoples of Central Brazil to him .
