Euphorbia cuprispina is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia cuprispina grows from a fleshy root with up to 20 centimeters long shoots that are in dense groups and can be up to 30 centimeters wide. The stalk-round shoots reach about 8 millimeters in diameter and are provided with flat warts that are in four rows at a distance of 15 millimeters from one another. The elongated triangular thorn shields are up to 10 millimeters long and 1.5 millimeters wide. They are yellowish in color and later turn coppery. Thorns up to 17 millimeters and secondary leaf thorns up to 1.5 millimeters in length are formed.

Single and simple cymes are formed, which are located on stems up to 2 millimeters long. The cyathia reach a diameter of 5 millimeters. The elliptical nectar glands are bright yellow in color and touch each other. The bluntly lobed and almost sedentary fruit is about 3.25 millimeters long and 4.5 millimeters wide. It is almost purple in color. The egg-shaped seed is 2.2 millimeters long and 1.5 millimeters wide. The surface of the seeds is covered with flat warts.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia cuprispina is common in the north of Kenya south of the Nyiru Mountains on stony soils at altitudes of 950 to 1500 meters.

The species was first described in 1987 by Susan Carter Holmes .
