Euphorbia poissonii is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia poissonii forms shrubs up to 1.5 meters high. The stem-round shoots are 2.5 to 4 centimeters in diameter and are light gray in color. The 8 millimeter thorn shields are about 1 centimeter apart and are arranged in 8 to 10 spirals. The leaves, standing close together at the tip of the shoots, are obovate and sessile. They form clipped to edged tips and are up to 14 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide. The leaves remain on younger shoots for a long time.
The inflorescence consists of single and simple cymes with short inflorescence stalks at the shoot tips. The cyathia are about 8 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are green and touching. The deeply lobed fruit reaches a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters. The smooth seed is egg-shaped and is 2.25 millimeters wide and 2 millimeters long.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia poissonii is common in West Africa , Ghana and further east to Nigeria .
The species was first described in 1902 by Ferdinand Albin Pax .
