The Eureka Spurs are several rock spurs in East Antarctic Victoria Land . They tower eight miles southwest of Mount McCarthy on the east side of the head end of the Mariner Glacier .
Participants in a campaign carried out from 1971 to 1972 as part of New Zealand's Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions to the Evans Firnfeld named it " Heureka " (German: "I found [it]") based on the saying " Heureka " attributed to Archimedes . The trigger for this was the discovery of fossils in this area.
