The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PV-UfM) was constituted in March 2004 under the name “ Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly” as a parliamentary control body within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership (today: Union for the Mediterranean ) in Athens.

The parliamentary assembly consists of 45 members from the European Parliament , 3 members from each of the EU member states and from the southern neighboring countries ( Morocco , Algeria , Tunisia , Egypt , Israel , Lebanon , Syria , Jordan , the Palestinian territories and Turkey - Libya has since 1999 observer status) a maximum of 12 MPs each. It meets once a year, alternating in the various member states. Its President is Josep Borrell Fontelles from the European Parliament. The committees, the Political Committee for Security and Human Rights , the Economic Committee for Finance, Social Affairs and Education and the Committee for the Promotion of the Quality of Life through the Exchange of People and Culture meet in Brussels (Belgium) or, upon invitation, in another Member State . Its official languages are Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish and all official languages ​​of the EU. The working languages ​​are English, French and Arabic.
