The European Brunnengesellschaft ( European Well and Fountain Society ) was on 4 March 2004 under the chairmanship of water chemist and longtime head of the largest long-distance water supply ( BWV ) and former. Deputy Managing Director of Stadtwerke, Dietrich Maier , in Karlsruhe founded. The Brunnengesellschaft organizes exhibitions and lecture events in cooperation with artists and non-fiction authors who work in the field, advocates the maintenance and continued operation of European urban wells (Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Hanover, Würzburg) and finances and supervises well projects in dry areas in Africa. In scientific collaboration with the Karlsruhe Technology Center, a process for chemical-free UV treatment of circulating well water was developed. In addition, a central point of contact for well maintenance and well damage has been set up. - Since 2005, the company has also been working on the drinking water supply and well restoration in the tsunami disaster area in Sri Lanka. In cooperation with the University of Surrey, for example, it is involved in a major project to rehabilitate 80,000 contaminated wells in the Jaffna district . The company is a cooperation partner of the International Water Aid Organization IWAO and the Engineers without Borders - KIT

Water and Well Museum

In 2005 the first German water and well museum was opened in the oldest Karlsruhe waterworks "Durlacher Wald" with the participation of the company . As the only museum of this kind, you can get an insight into the history of water supply using the example of the city of Karlsruhe.
