The Europäische Rundschau was a quarterly magazine for politics , economics and contemporary history , which appeared in Vienna from 1973 to 2020 . Paul Lendvai was editor-in-chief and co-editor from the start .

From 1990 to 2006 a Hungarian edition with the most important articles was published in Budapest : Európai Szemle . The Europäische Rundschau is dedicated to the explosive topics of Europe such as the major economic and social problems of the transformation process in the former communist-ruled countries of Central and Eastern Europe , the questions of economic integration in Europe and the problems of the minorities in Southeast Europe.

Right from the start, the magazine was sponsored by leading Austrian politicians from numerous parties, such as Federal Chancellors such as Bruno Kreisky ( SPÖ ) or Wolfgang Schüssel ( ÖVP ). Long-term sponsor was the businessman and former ÖVP politician Josef Taus . Most recently, ex- Federal President Heinz Fischer headed the Board of Trustees. For the discontinuation of the magazine with the second issue 2020, the editorial association brought up financing problems.
