Andreas Boltz (born July 13, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a German church musician and composer.

Life

Boltz studied Catholic church music at the Würzburg University of Music. In 1989 he passed the Diplom-A-examination and the state music teacher examination, in 1992 he obtained the master class diploma for artistic organ playing in Günther Kaunzinger's master class . He also studied with Fritz ter Wey and Eric Ericson (choir direction), Daniel Roth , Francoise Renet, Guy Bovet and Jon Laukvik (organ), Glen Wilson (harpsichord), Kurt Suttner (voice physiology) and Zsolt Gárdonyi (composition).

From 1989 to 1993 he was assistant to the cathedral music director at Kiliansdom in Würzburg . From autumn 1993 to 2011 he was regional cantor of the Mainz diocese in Darmstadt and lecturer for choral conducting and organ at the Institute for Church Music in Mainz .

As an organist and choir director he made recordings for ZDF , BR , HR , DLF , ORF , RAI and Catalunya Ràdio. Concerts as a soloist and accompanist have taken him to numerous European countries. From 1994 to 1995 he was rehearsal director of the Darmstadt Musikverein in cooperation with the Darmstadt State Theater . From 1995 to 2011 Andreas Boltz directed the Vocal Ensemble Darmstadt , a chamber choir of around 35 people that works on a project basis.

In 1998 he made commissioned compositions for the closing service of the Katholikentag in Mainz, and on the occasion of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2006 the stage work Saphir was created, the setting of a parable by the Indian author Dilip Chitre . In autumn 2010, the music theater production The True Buenos Aires was premiered in cooperation with the cultural association "con tempo" in Frankfurt am Main .

Andreas Boltz has been the cathedral music director at the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew in Frankfurt am Main since June 2011 . In September 2011 rehearsals began for the Frankfurt Cathedral Singing School , which was set up under his direction. On November 3, 2012 he will play the organ part of the Missa solemnis Bonifatius Mass by Colin Mawby in the second performance of the work by the Choir of St. Bonifatius, Wiesbaden , conducted by Gabriel Dessauer . to Frankfurt am Main in the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew.

His compositional work was honored with the Premio Speciale at the 1992 International Composition Competition in Trieste (Italy) .
