The Vocal Ensemble Darmstadt was founded in 1995 by Andreas Boltz and was artistic director until 2011. Jorin Sandau, regional cantor in St. Ludwig (Darmstadt) , has been in charge since 2011 .
The roughly 40 singers come together two to three times a year from all over the region for rehearsal phases.

Appearances
Appearances in the cathedrals of Lisbon , Włocławek , Würzburg , Mainz and Worms , the Thomaskirche in Leipzig , the state theaters of Wiesbaden and Darmstadt , at the Bodensee Music Festival (2004), concert tours to Italy (1998), France (2001), Portugal (2005 ), Poland (2009) and the collaboration with orchestras such as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Churpfälzische Hofcapelle and the Munich baroque orchestra L'arpa festante testify to the work of the choir.
CD recordings
The CD recordings Creator Spiritus , Swinging Christmas , Heiligste Nacht and the production of the Mass op.4 by Saint-Saëns for the Motette-Verlag Düsseldorf as well as recordings for the Hessian and Bavarian Radio and the Südwestrundfunk have made the choir known nationwide.
