The Institute for Church Music of the Diocese of Mainz was founded after the Second World War as a training center for Catholic church musicians and a coordination center for matters relating to church music within the diocese as a whole. Today around 100 pupils are trained by eight regional cantors for the C and D exams in the subjects of organ and choir conducting on the site of the historic Antoniterkloster .
Contemporary sacred music
In 2010, six regional cantors of the diocese created a "Mainz diocese fair". The ordinarium was set to music with an easy to medium level of difficulty in order to find a broad impact and reception in the target group of simple church choirs. A first copy of the CD was given to the Bishop of Mainz, Cardinal Karl Lehmann, on September 7, 2010.
