Karsten Storck

Karsten Storck (born April 24, 1973 in Gütersloh ) is a German church musician and cathedral music director.

Life

Karsten Storck began his musical career as a member of the boys' choir of the St. Pankratius Church in Gütersloh. He received his first piano and organ lessons from Paul-Leo Leenen. In the Archdiocese of Paderborn he took part in the training course to become a church musician on a part-time basis (C course) from 1990 to 1993. Between 1994 and 2000 he was a church musician in St. Paulus (Harsewinkel) and St. John the Baptist (Greffen) , initially as a part-time job, and since 1998 as a full-time cantor. He continued his musical education with the organ teachers Christoph Grohmann (Rheda-Wiedenbrück) and Georg Gusia (Bielefeld).

Storck studied from 1997 to 2003 Catholic church music and music education at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Markus Eichenlaub , Gisbert Schneider and Roland Maria Stangier (organ) and Guido Knüsel (choir direction). This study was made possible by the Cusanuswerk . Due to a scholarship from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , he took part in the International Altenberg Organ Academy for Improvisation in 2002 . In 2005 he passed his concert exam in organ with distinction. His other teachers include Thierry Mechler (Lyon), Peter Planyavsky (Vienna) and Wolfgang Seifen (Berlin).

From 2002 to February 2005 he was a pastoral musician in St. Laurentius (Wuppertal) . The musical work with children and young people was a focus of his work in the parish association . The State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia sponsored its children's musicals , which were carried out as projects during the school holidays.

In 2005 he was appointed as cathedral choirmaster at Mainz Cathedral . There he took over the direction of the girls' choir at the cathedral and St. Quintin. In addition, since October 2005 he has been teaching children's choir conducting at the Institute for Church Music in Mainz . On March 22nd, 2012, Domdekan Prelate Heinz Heckwolf announced that Storck would be the successor of the then Domkapellmeister Mathias Breitschaft on August 1st, 2012 , who retired at the end of July 2012. Since then, Storck has directed the Mainz Cathedral Choir (boys' choir), the St. Martin Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Orchestra and is responsible for the more than 400 musicians in all ensembles of the Mainz Cathedral Music.

In May 2019 Storck was appointed honorary professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .
