Gisbert Schneider

Gisbert Schneider (born January 14, 1934 in Wattenscheid ; † December 1, 2018 in Velbert ) was professor for artistic organ playing and improvisation at the Folkwang University of Applied Sciences in Essen and church music director .

Born in Wattenscheid , he grew up in Weimar . There he received his first organ lessons from Johannes Ernst Köhler . He completed his church music and band master studies with Siegfried Reda at the Folkwang University in Essen. This was followed by church music activities in Velbert and Mülheim an der Ruhr . Since 1961 he was also a lecturer at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen , in 1970 he was appointed professor.

He was a prizewinner at international organ competitions and in 1958 received the sponsorship award from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition to his international concert activities, he was a member of the jury for international organ competitions. There was particularly close scientific cooperation with the Krakow Music Academy and Jan Jargon . Gisbert Schneider has made radio and vinyl recordings as well as CD / SACD recordings. He was the founder and head of the Velbert Kantorei for more than 50 years . In 1996 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
