European opera singing competition

The European opera singing competition DEBUT is a platform for the promotion of young singing soloists and is endowed with prizes of over 25,000 euros.

The price

The aim of DEBUT is to support young opera singers for two years (maximum age 30 and 34 years) and is aimed at the vocal subjects soprano - mezzo-soprano / alto, tenor - countertenor - baritone / bass. The preliminary rounds take place in the rooms of Jeunesses Musicales Germany in Weikersheim (Baden-Württemberg). Participation in the qualification rounds includes a workshop “scenic performance training” led by lecturers.

The competition, which has been taking place since 2002, was initiated by Manfred Wittenstein, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Igersheim-based mechatronics group Wittenstein AG .

The singers face an international jury made up of personalities from the media and opera world. The European singing competition DEBUT is located in Weikersheim Castle and Bad Mergentheim .

  • 2nd Prize Silver Victoria & € 5,000 in prize money
  • 3rd Prize Bronze Victoria & € 2,500 prize money
  • 4th to 6th prize € 500 each
