The European Space Research and Technology Center ( English European Space Research and Technology Center , shortly ESTEC ) is part of the European Space Agency (ESA), based in Noordwijk , Netherlands .

A large part of the technical planning and coordination with industry for the missions takes place here. At ESTEC, the satellites are also tested for their suitability for space conditions. These include a. Vibration and shock tests, thermal / vacuum tests and space simulation as well as tests for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Laboratories for material testing are also housed in the ESTEC. Here u. a. the plastics and metals built into satellites have been tested for their space suitability with various outgassing tests ( e.g. micro-VCM, TGA ). The European Space Tribology Laboratory (ESTL) has its own laboratory for tribological aspects and the investigation of lubricants.

The Space Expo Noordwijk is also located on the site .

The Advanced Concepts Team (ACT) , a multidisciplinary research facility that deals with advanced and future technologies, strategies and topics, is also set up at ESTEC.

It was founded in 1968. The head of the facility is Franco Ongaro.
