history

In March 1989, the ballet era of the European ballet began in a small private ballet school run by Michael Fichtenbaum in St. Pölten . The Puppenfee was performed for the first time in the spring of 1990, and Michael Fichtenbaum and Hermine Gruber (the wife of the mayor at the time, Willi Gruber ) founded a youth ensemble. The integration into the music school of the state capital St. Pölten took place in 1992. The foundation stone for the future was laid in 1993 with the collaboration of well-known choreographers such as Renato Zanella and the dancer Vladimir Malakhov .

The start of the cooperation was the opening of the festival weeks in the event center St. Pölten (VAZ) , which Vladimir Malakhof supported. The first Asian tour that followed was the entry into the international dance scene. The Malakhov and Youth Gala in the Festspielhaus St. Pölten became an annual fixture until 2001.

Ballet Conservatory

In 1996, construction work began on the ballet conservatory in St. Pölten-Wagram . Just one year later, the St. Pölten parish council decided to create the ballet conservatory with professional training and the move into the Wagram cultural center followed.

The ballet school teaches students between the ages of 5 and 18 from Germany and abroad. In four ballet halls, around 200 students are trained by seven ballet teachers in the classes children's dance, preparatory classes 1 to 4, performance classes 1 to 7 and academy classes 1 to 3.

During the training, the ballet students participate in the performances of the Europaballet in the ballet theater. Traditionally, there are six performances a year as part of “Ballet Jeunesse”, where schoolchildren present what they have learned on stage in front of an audience.

Dance training in the conservatory takes two to four years in the academy class.

The following is taught: pas de deux , high-tech , rhythmic , historical dance , character , jazz and contemporary dance , Wiesenthal technique , pantomime , applied history of ballet , music and repertoire.

European ballet career

By participating in international competitions, the Europaballet is an internationally recognized ensemble in 1998 and 1999. The cooperation agreement concluded at the turn of the millennium with Renato Zanella , the head of the State Opera Ballet at the time, was another milestone in the history of the European ballet. This was followed in 2002 by the first prize at the “Young American Grand Prix” with Maria Abashova and Kristina Kantsel. International appearances and another competition, the "Worldcup Dance" in Hollywood with Roxane Timoshenko, contributed to the international fame. The operetta summer in Kufstein has been an integral part of the ensemble's annual performances since 2007. With the foundation of the “Theater des Ballett” in 2011, the foundation stone was laid for numerous productions in the future.

From 2011 to 2013 guest performances took place in Moscow, America, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa and also in many large cities in Europe. Up to 15 productions are performed in the “Theater des Ballett” each season. Children's and youth performances contribute to cultural promotion. Tours through America and Canada are now an integral part of the annual program. In summer the ensemble goes on tour and dances at the operetta summer in Kufstein, the music festival in Steyr and also in Thalheim Castle. In 2016 the ballet followed the call of the Salzburg Festival and performed a dance contribution to the opera “Die Liebe der Danae”.
